Founded in 1962, the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (CAGS) is a non-profit organization that promotes graduate education and university research through meetings, publications and advocacy. The Association brings together 58 Canadian universities with graduate programs and the three-federal research-granting agencies, as well as other institutions and organizations having an interest in graduate studies. The National Office monitors federal policies and legislation with respect to graduate education and university research, and provides information to research-granting agencies, civil servants and Members of Parliament on the purpose and needs of graduate education.

Working in close collaboration with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the enhancement of CAGS image by being active and visible in the community. Accountable for the day to day operations of the National Office, in accordance with the mission, the Executive Director will ensure operational and financial efficiencies and constant improvements, carry out the strategic priorities, oversee communication with membership, oversee the planning and execution of the Annual Conference, and cultivate networks and relationships with stakeholders.

The ideal candidate, an accomplished leader and communicator, has thorough knowledge of and experience with Canada’s higher education environment, including relevant governmental and non-governmental entities and relationships. CAGS seeks an individual who is independent and enthusiastic, who will set strategic direction, articulate, and work towards the organization’s mission, and oversee the implementation of plans and strategies to deliver efficient, effective, and high-quality services. This individual must be collaborative, have exceptional team management and relationship building skills, and be functionally bilingual.
