Who is Canada’s Favourite 3MT Presenter?

Now is your chance to vote for Canada’s Choice in the national 3Minute Thesis competition.

Visit the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies 3MT page for videos of the 11 finalists chosen from regional competitions. Voting is open between noon Pacific Time on May 15 and noon Pacific Time May 25, 2015.

You don’t have to be a student to participate. Please share the 3MT link with your friends and colleagues and encourage them to vote. It is a great way to show the accomplishments and contributions graduate students make to Canada.

The presentations are inspiring. From fighting cancer, to protecting food security to foiling the lie detector machine – they are just a sample of what Canada’s graduate researchers are exploring.

Our national judges’ panel will be choosing a first and second place winner and awarding prizes of $1,500 and $1,000. The People’s Choice is awarded $500. Winners will be announced the first week of June. First place winner will be attending the CAGS National Conference in Calgary later this year.

More than 35 graduate schools participated in this year’s 3MT challenge. They hosted workshops, coaching sessions, and local competitions. The goal of the competition is to increase the communications skill and confidence of graduates. And you’ll see from these videos that it worked!

The 3MT concept has had widespread international popularity since it was developed by the University of Queensland in 2008. In Canada, UBC ran the first university based competition in 2011.

A big thanks to regional organizers at Concordia, Western and Thompson Rivers University.
